Unlike Strickland, who would only face an $8 Billion "deficit" that is projected if there is no continued federal aid to the States (an unlikely proposition), Kasich faces a much bigger hurdle as he's promised to phase out the income and estate taxes. He lost the budget battles against Bill Clinton every year he was chairman. Had Congress just passed Clinton's budgets as submitted, we still would have had a surplus. Why? Because of larger than expected economic growth created the budget surpluses of the 1990s not Bill Clinton or John Kasich.

It was the free market, unfortunately, riding the very bubble that lead to our economic circumstances we are in now.

Earlier in the campaign, the Dispatch quoted an economist who said that Kasich wasn't responsible for the budget being in balance as much as the economy. Even the CATO Institute says Kasich doesn't deserve the credit.

It's just factually untrue. Kasich's claim to fame is that he just happened to be the House Budget Chairman at the time, but nothing he did was made a surplus happen because they would have happened without him.

Unlike Ted Strickland, who actually cut spending to create a budget surplus that wouldn't have happened otherwise.Modern Esquirehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01840547526741502336noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7743530438680774250.post-23252737545172498422010-07-01T16:28:05.317-04:002010-07-01T16:28:05.317-04:00Modern, there is an $8B budget hole...and you know...Modern, there is an $8B budget hole...and you know it.Scarlet>Firenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7743530438680774250.post-42944226076205265112010-07-01T16:23:09.929-04:002010-07-01T16:23:09.929-04:00State ended the year with over $100 million surplu...State ended the year with over $100 million surplus.
