With a new Rasmussen poll out yesterday showing Josh Mandel tied with Sherrod Brown, the incumbent Senator is getting more and more desperate to change the subject.
On Tuesday, Mandel appeared with Mitt Romney to speak to coal miners in Beallsville, which is in Ohio's coal country. The Huffington Post ran with a story accusing Mandel of faking a southern accent.
I have posted the video below. It sounds to me that they are picking on Josh for his pronunciation of the word "out". That's the only word that sounded a bit off to me, and I know there are times when I accidentally and randomly don't use perfect diction when speaking. Nowhere else during his speech do I detect anything different from his normal speaking style.

I'm not surprised that liberal blogs like Huffington Post are making silly attacks on a Republican Senate candidate, but surely the Senator isn't going to lower himself to making such a juvenile accusation, is he?
Right, Senator Brown?
Sherrod Brown has been in elected office for over 30 years in Ohio, is a member of the United States Senate, and he's talking about accents?
Just like we told you months ago when Sherrod's very first ad was a negative attack, this guy will do anything to distract Ohioans from the fact that he has perhaps the most left-wing voting record in all of the Senate. He knows that it's not compatible with Ohio's center-right electorate, so he can't run on his extreme progressive views. He has to tear down his opponent. He has no choice.
And judging by his campaign's infatuation with this "story" the last two days, there isn't a level of ridiculousness that they won't stoop to.

I'm sure Sen. Brown's very next tweet questioned Biden's appropriation of a southern dialect during the now-infamous "put y'all back in chains" comment, right?
ReplyDeleteI really don't like Mandel that much. He's not a great candidate, but anything on this earth is better than Sherrod Brown. We must get Brown out, he is a disaster.
ReplyDeleteBrown: Another raspy voiced Yalie. Meatchicken grad.
ReplyDeleteMandel: Marine. OSU Student Govt. Prez.
'nuff said.
So why hasn't Sen. Brown ever criticized Obama for use of ebonics when speaking in the black neighborhoods. It disgusts me to hear our "president" speak with such poor English and he does it regularly!
ReplyDeleteLeave it to Nicky to convieniently neglect to mention all the other polls that have Brown ahead by 10 to 12 points.
ReplyDeleteHe quotes the most recent poll we have. Most other polls I have seen on this race are from May or June.
DeleteThe ones I mention are from August. He quotes the ONE poll that fits his agenda, as he usually does.
ReplyDeleteWhen you have to cite Rasmussen as evidence of a Republican having a chance to win, that candidate is losing. Losing hard.
ReplyDeleteRasmussen was the last bane of hope for the Ken Blackwell supporters in 2006.
It's also the ONLY poll in America that shows Mandel polling over 40%.
Nick didn't write about it because it's the most recent. He wrote about it because it's the only one that still shows Brown has a chance to win. He's conveniently ignored all other polling in the race and that most pundits are starting to take this race off their watch lists.
