Sherrod Brown, Obamacare and the War on Women

Guest post by Jenny Engel

Stiletto heels are a staple in my closet. I rarely wear anything other than stiletto heels, and fortunately for me, my childhood best friend is a podiatrist.

My choice to wear these heels is just that. My choice. I know the consequences, have heard the myths that heels are related to cancer, and all the other gibberish. But again, it's my choice. I love my heels and wear them every day, sometimes for 14 hours straight.

I've never been one of those believers in the women's lib movement. Maybe it is because of my conservative parents, or as I like to think, parents that have common sense. From day one, it has been instilled in me that you work for everything you have, and accept no handouts. If someone shows you a kind favor, pay it forward. And never, under any circumstances, let someone treat you as if you are less than what you believe you are.

That is why I find it amusing that Senator Sherrod Brown is spouting off that the Republicans are waging a "war on women", or that he is trying to protect women's rights under Obamacare.

“There’s a war on women’s rights in Ohio and across the country by some who don’t want women to be in charge of their own health care decisions. I remain committed to ensuring that the voices of Ohio’s women are always heard in the United States Senate.” - Senator Sherrod Brown
Well, Senator, you seem to understand what women want. What about that whole incident where your ex-wife had to obtain a restraining order during your divorce because you "struck and bullied" her?
Divorce records from Brown’s first marriage, obtained by Breitbart News, show that during the contentious proceedings, his wife accused him of “extreme cruelty” and “harassment”; she said she was “in fear for the safety … of myself and our children,” and accused Sherrod of “physical violence.” In fact, she said, Brown had “struck and bullied me on several different occasions.” The allegations apparently first became fodder for campaigning during Brown’s race for Congress in 1992.
In addition, the healthcare bill does nothing but bully women. For instance, look at the provision on obesity. Now, I think everyone needs to be healthy and exercise. I exercise at least 4-5 days a week. I'm a size 4/6 (depending on the store I shop at). By most people's standards, I am not fat. But, under Obamacare, (which uses a BMI calculation) if I plug in my height (I'm short, thus the love affair with heels) and weight (I'm pretty muscular due to my exercise routine), I am overweight.

Well, heck, let's go get a Big Mac. I'm already overweight. What's a few more pounds? That sure was a confidence booster.

Technically, I am not obese. But, a federal health advisory panel has made a recommendation to provide all obese adults with intensive counseling. So, we are all going to pay higher premiums so that obese people can get counseling. Ladies and gentlemen, if you wish to get counseling for your eating habits, there is no reason I should have to pay for that. It was your choice. Just like wearing high heels is my choice.

The same sentiment can be said for the birth control provision that is at the mercy of the President. There is no reason that I, or anyone else, should have to pay for your birth control. If you can't afford birth control, I have an easy solution. Do not have sex. Rocket science material, I know.

So, thank you Senator Brown for all that you do for women. Through this healthcare bill, you will constantly be bullying us for the rest of our lives. And this fall, we will divorce you. When the citizens of the State of Ohio elect Josh Mandel to the United States Senate, please know the women of Ohio deserve better, and we voted you out.
