In or out.

I've seen some of my liberal friends on twitter and facebook rejoicing about Elena Kagan's confirmation by the Senate. A number of them are happy that the court "now looks a little bit more like America".

To me, that's exactly the wrong attitude.

We should be struggling to find the most qualified candidate for the Supreme Court based on his or her ability to do the job, not the color of his or her skin, their gender, or who they sleep next to at night.

As a nation, we need to stop looking at what's on the outside, and start recognizing it's what's in the inside that matters.
