Hidden away in the depths of the Health Care bill is a section requiring the following:
It requires employers to provide "a place, other than a bathroom, that is shielded from view and free from intrusion from co-workers and the public, which may be used by an employee to express breast milk." Only companies with less than 50 employees can claim it's an undue hardship. In other words, every single store of more than 50 people needs to set aside space for a breastfeeding room whether they have women that require the space or not. Additionally, it can't be used for any other purpose besides breastfeeding.
While I totally support a mother having the opportunity to privately breastfeed her child, it's not the government's job to assign yet more unnecessary requirements and economic burdens on private industry. I'm sure the Democrats consider it a small expense for business owners to bear, but in the long run mandates like this add up and will undoubtedly cost jobs.
As Hotair said:
Not only will these new mandates carry extra cost burdens for businesses, we now will have to fund enforcement as well. That means even more money taken out of the private sector and spent on non-productive regulatory efforts, mainly for the Democrats’ ideas of social engineering.
