In Fort Jackson, La., Jindal has ordered the Guard to start building barrier walls right in the middle of the ocean. The barriers, built nine miles off shore, are intended to keep the oil from reaching the coast by filling the gaps between barrier islands. And thanks to his response over the course of the crisis, Jindal is enjoying quite a surge in popularity in Louisiana.
Today, huge Blackhawk and Chinook helicopters lined up in the air, dropping sandbags one by one into the sea.
63% approve of his overall performance, and 65% approve of his response to the oil spill.
With Americans needing a hero in the midst of this mess, Jindal is primed to resurrect his tarnished image as a national GOP leader. Can he utilize his success to benefit him politically? We'll see.
